Deborah Issokson, Psy.D. licensed psychologist, has been in private practice since 1993. A graduate of the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology and licensed by the state of Massachusetts, she specializes in perinatal mental health, providing psychotherapy for women and their partners as well as training, supervision and consultation to healthcare and mental health professionals and graduate students in the area of reproductive mental health.
Until its closing, Dr. Issokson was an adjunct faculty member of the Boston University School of Public Health, Department of Maternal and Child Health, Nurse-Midwifery Education Program. She is also on faculty at the Center for Early Relationship Support, Jewish Family and Children’s Service, Waltham, MA.
She is a frequent guest speaker at conferences, schools, and professional and community organizations, garnering praise for her dynamic teaching style, her enthusiasm and passion for her work and her ability to involve her audience.
Dr. Issokson has served as a consultant to authors in print media as well as on-line. She is quoted in numerous publications, both in print and on-line. She has published in the journal Applied and Preventive Psychology, 1997 as well as in the MIDIRS Midwifery Digest. She has also published a chapter “Effects of Childhood Abuse on Childbearing and Perinatal Health in Health Consequences of Abuse in the Family: A Clinical Guide for Evidence-Based Practice (APA, 2004).
She is a contributor to the 2011 revision of Our Bodies Ourselves, co-author of chapter 23, The First Year of Parenting in Our Bodies Ourselves, A New Edition for a New Era, 2005, and chapter 21, Postpartum, in Our Bodies Ourselves for the New Century, 1998. She is also a contributor to Our Bodies Ourselves, Pregnancy & Birth, 2008.
Dr. Issokson was instrumental in establishing the South Shore Postpartum Support Network, a resource for families and professionals in Southeastern Massachusetts seeking clinical and support services for postpartum mental health difficulties.
Dr. Issokson is the only therapist in Massachusetts trained and certified by Dr. Gayle Peterson, creator of Holistic Prenatal Counseling and Body-Centered Hypnosis for Childbirth.
Dr. Issokson is currently available for speaking engagements at conferences and is available to offer her workshops and training sessions to your professional and community organizations, healthcare practices and facilities or educational programs.
